Philip Jason Everly, commonly known as Phil Everly, was born on January 19, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, United States.

Phil Everly and his brother Don Everly formed the Everly Brothers Band. Other members of the band included their in-laws Janet Eitel and Archie Blair.

He was the son of Milford “Ike” Everly II, a Kentucky coal miner who became a musician. Years later, Phil Everly and his family moved from Kentucky to Chicago. Soon after, they moved from Chicago to Iowa. At the age of 6, he and his brother Don Everly began singing with their parents on morning radio.

Phil Everly’s mother was Margaret Embry Everly, a professional guitarist.

Phil Everly and his older brother Don Everly spent most of their childhood in Shenandoah, Iowa. They both attended Longfellow Elementary School in Waterloo, Iowa for one year. They then moved to Shenandoah in 1944 where they received their early high school education.

In 1953, Phil Everly and his family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he and his brother attended Western High School. Two years later, he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where his brother graduated from high school in 1955.

Phil Everly was married several times. His first marriage was to Jacqueline Alice Ertel on January 12, 1963, but the relationship broke down and they divorced in 1970. Phil Everly and Jacqueline Alice Ertel had one son.

Two years after divorcing Jacqueline Alice Eitel, he married another woman named Patricia Michie. Phil Everly and Patricia Michie were reportedly married on July 15, 1972. He and Patricia Michie had a falling out and annulled their engagement on December 22, 1978.

21 years after his divorce from Patricia Michie, Phil Everly found love again; he married another woman named Patrice Yvonne Arnold on August 23, 1999. Phil Everly and Patrice Yvonne Arnold remained together until his death on January 3, 2014.

On January 3, 2014, 16 days after his 75th birthday, Phil Everly died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California.

Phil Everly died of lung disease. Phil Everly’s widow, Patrice Arnold, blamed her husband’s death on his smoking habit, which led to his chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and recounted how Phil Everly had to carry an oxygen tank with him wherever he went and take 20 different medications a day in his final years.
