portal revolution

Portal: Revolution is a 2024 free mod for Portal 2, created by Second Face Software. Similar to the official Portal game, it is a puzzle platformer in which players use portals to navigate test chambers. The mod introduces new elements such as suction vents and different types of laser cubes. Set before the events of the original game, players control an unnamed test subject who aims to restore a testing laboratory.

The cover art shows a dilapidated testing chamber with a hole that lets in sunlight. Developed and published by Second Face Software, it runs on the Strata Source engine and is available on Windows and Linux. After going through some approval challenges, it was finally released on January 6, 2024. Despite the delay, the mod has been well received by Steam players. Join this prequel adventure to solve puzzles and uncover the story behind the Test Lab.

Portal Revolution gameplay

Portal Revolution’s gameplay is similar to the official Portal game, focusing on solving puzzles in the test chamber. Players wield guns to create portals, manipulate the environment and interact with buttons and cubes. They can also use gel to coat the surface, allowing it to bounce or slide.

This mod introduces new elements such as laser cubes and gel cleaning fields. It brings back the “aerodynamic vents” that weren’t present in the original Portal 2. Unlike the original, some puzzles limit players to controlling only one portal.
