Early life and education
Prichard Colón was born on September 19, 1992 in Maitland, Florida, United States. He was raised by his parents, Richard Colón and Nieves Melendez, along with his two siblings Natalie Colon Melendez and Ricardo Colon Melendez.
He is Puerto Rican American and Christian. After graduating from high school, Colón continued to study Business Administration at Sagrado Corazón University in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Career
Prichard Colón’s professional career was tragically cut short by a serious injury. Hailing from Maitland, Florida, Colón had a successful amateur career, winning multiple national championships and a gold medal at the 2010 Pan American Youth Championships.
However, in 2012, Colón turned professional and quickly gained attention for his aggressive fighting style and impressive knockout power. He went on to build an undefeated record of 16 wins, 13 by knockout, before facing Terrel Williams in October 2015.
Unfortunately, during the fight, Colón suffered a severe head injury that left him in a coma and required multiple surgeries. Despite his incredible resilience and determination, Colón was unable to fully recover and was forced to retire from boxing at just 23 years old.
Despite his determination and incredible strength, Prichard Colón’s boxing career came to a heartbreaking end. During the altercation, he was repeatedly hit in the back of the head, leading to brain hemorrhage.
Colón collapsed and was in a coma for 221 days before emerging, but sadly, he fell into a persistent vegetative state. This tragic event highlights the need for stricter regulations and protocols in combat sports to prevent similar injuries from occurring in the future.
