Reportedly filmed inside a cell at a Category A prison in south-west London, the video shows the woman in uniform having sex with an inmate. The footage also shows the pair having sex while another inmate films the scene on a mobile phone.
After the video emerged online, the Metropolitan Police quickly arrested a woman on suspicion of misconduct in public office on 28 June. HMP Prison Service condemned the incident, stressing its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption by staff and reported the former officer to the authorities.
The scandal comes amid intense scrutiny of HMP Wandsworth, which has faced criticism ranging from security flaws and overcrowding to problems with drugs, violence and self-harm. A recent monitoring report recommended urgent measures for the prison due to persistent security shortcomings, including chaos in some areas and concerns about staff’s ability to effectively supervise prisoners.
The former officer involved is said to have a husband and a son. The case has sparked a heated debate about the state of the UK prison system, prompting calls for tighter oversight and greater accountability measures. As investigations continue, questions remain about how such a serious breach of trust and protocol could have occurred in a high-security facility.
