Early life
Ray Lewis was born the eldest of five children in Bartow, Florida. His mother was 16 years old when he was born, and his father was away from home for most of his life. He was born to Sunseria (mother) and Elbert Ray Jackson (father) on May 15, 1975.
Little is known about his father’s background except that he was a record-breaking high school wrestler before being convicted of drug-related crimes. Ray Lewis grew up to be the man of the house, despite being the oldest of four siblings. His four siblings are Keon Lattimore, Lakeisha Jenkins, Laquesha Jenkins and Kadaja Holloway.
Ray Lewis brushed his sisters’ hair and made sure his younger brother got to daycare on time. As his relationship with his father worsened, he dropped his last name and enrolled in Kathleen High School in Lakeland under the name of his mother’s lover, Ray Lewis.
Education
Ray Lewis attended the University of Miami, where he played football for the Miami Hurricanes. As a freshman, he made an immediate impact, starting the Hurricanes’ final five games.
Ray Lewis had 81 tackles, two knockdowns, two tackles for loss and four pass deflections while playing for the Hurricanes.

Ray Lewis has a total of six children, four boys and two girls. Ray Lewis III, his eldest son, is a college football player at the University of Miami and Coastal Carolina. His six children are Ray Lewis III, Rayshad Lewis, Diaymon Desiree Lewis, Rashaan Lewis, Ralin Lewis, and Kaitlin Lewis.
Ray Lewis, despite his wealth, has never been married. He was engaged to Tatyana McCall, but they broke off the engagement for undisclosed reasons.

Ray Lewis was the highest-rated quarterback in the 1996 NFL Draft, with Kevin Hardy considered the draft’s only standout quarterback prospect.

Ray Lewis won his second AFC Defensive Player of the Week award in Week 9 against the Washington Redskins. In 1997, he set an NFL record and career-high 184 tackles, including 156 solo tackles, the most in a season, and earned his first Pro Bowl appearance. He also had 11 pass deflections, four tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, and one forced fumble.
Ray Lewis was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time in 1998, with 120 tackles, three sacks, two blocked shots, one forced fumble, and seven pass deflections. He led the Ravens in tackles for the third consecutive year. He was also selected to the All-Pro Team by the Sporting News.

In Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins, he had 11 tackles in a 19-6 loss. In Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he had 13 tackles and a forced fumble in a 15-10 win.
