In 1981, Harrison began working at his father’s thrift store in Las Vegas. After years of moving around, they finally opened a pawn shop in 1989. By 2005, the supermarket was lending $3 million a year and earning $700,000 in profits.
In 2006, the store established a reputation for its cool sports items, such as Super Bowl rings. They also serve pawnbrokers for gas money. According to Harrison, in 2010, jewelry was the most pawned item in the store.
Harrison pitched the idea of a pawnshop reality show four years after his store was featured on Insomniac with Dave Attell in 2003. Leftfield Pictures approached him and pitched him the idea. about a show based in Las Vegas in 2008. The format was changed by Nancy Dubuc of the History Channel to accommodate object appraisers and focus on supermarket employees and patrons.
