Barry Keoghan’s next role will be as Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, Starr himself has confirmed.
The iconic drummer recently told Entertainment Tonight that Keoghan, just started his role in the salt burnis playing him in Sam Mendes’ ambitious Beatles project.
“I think it’s great,” Starr said when asked about her role. “I believe he’s taking drum lessons somewhere – hopefully not too much,” he quipped.
The upcoming film, produced by Sony Pictures, will be a quartet of films, each told from the perspective of a member of the Beatles. For the first time, Paul McCartney, Starr and the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison granted full musical and life rights to the project, making it a landmark moment in Beatles storytelling.
The news has sparked a wave of rumors about the cast, with names like Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn and Paul Mescal being bandied about. While no deal has been finalized yet, Keoghan’s name marks the closest the project has to a confirmed cast.
If Keoghan were on board as Starr, it would be a huge success for the production. The Irish actor has built a reputation for delivering standout performances in a variety of roles. From his Oscar-nominated role in Martin McDonagh’s film Goddess Inisherin with his sinister cameo as the original Joker in BatmanKeoghan’s versatility made him an attractive choice for the “fun” Beatle. He also just went out salt burnwhere his wild performance included dancing naked to “Murder on the Dance Floor” and sipping Jacob Elordi’s bath water.
While a source close to the film cautioned that no casting decisions have been made firm, the buzz surrounding Keoghan remains the strongest. Whether he participates in Beatlemania or not, his participation represents a step toward realizing Mendes’ vision.
Keoghan is no stranger to music. He has been linked to singer Sabrina Carpenter for some time and has been spotted at several of her concerts over the past year.
