Adil Rami is a retired French professional footballer who played as a center back. He started his career with amateur club Étoile Fréjus Saint-Raphaël, formerly known as ES Fréjus.
Nicknamed “Shrek” by his teammates and Lille supporters, Rami has been recognized for his defensive skills. In January 2011, he signed a four-year contract with Spanish club Valencia.
Despite being named in France’s preliminary squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he did not make the final squad for the tournament.

Early life and education
Adil Rami was born on December 27, 1985 in Bastia, France, to Moroccan parents, Mustapha and Fatima Rami. His family later moved to Fréjus, France, where he grew up. He is the eldest child in a family of 5 siblings.
He has three older brothers, Karim, Tarik and Malik and a younger sister named Sonia. While details about his educational background are unknown, Rami is of Moroccan descent and follows Islam as his religion.
Career
Adil Rami began his football career at amateur club Étoile Fréjus Saint-Raphaël, then known as ES Fréjus, where he initially played football as a hobby. Playing in the Championnat de France amateur division, the fourth tier of French football, Rami made his debut in the 2003–04 season, appearing in four matches.
The following season, he became more involved, appearing in 24 matches and helping Fréjus finish in mid-table. Wanting to go beyond amateur football, Rami seized the opportunity to try out at Lille.
Rami’s career began at Lille, where he became a key player. In January 2011, he signed a four-year contract with Valencia but was loaned to Lille, contributing to their historic double that season.
At Valencia, his tenure was marked by controversy, including a suspension in 2013 for criticizing teammate and coach Miroslav Đukić. He then moved to Sevilla in 2015 for 3.5 million euros, winning the UEFA Europa League in his first season.
In 2017, Rami returned to Ligue 1, joining Marseille on a 4-year contract worth 6 million euros. He debuted in the UEFA Europa League and remained at the club until 2019, when he was dismissed for misconduct. Soon after, Rami had brief spells with Fenerbahçe, PFC Sochi and Boavista before signing for Troyes in 2021, continuing to demonstrate his resilience despite frequent changes of clubs.
Internationally, Rami debuted for France on 11 August 2010 in a friendly match against Norway. Although he was eligible to play for Morocco, he chose France, narrowly missing out on the final squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In 2018, Rami was a member of the French team that won the World Cup and then announced his retirement from international football. Adil Rami has been involved in a number of high profile relationships. He has twin sons, Zayn and Madi, born in 2016, with ex-partner Sidonie Biémont.
In 2017, Rami began dating actress Pamela Anderson and by November 2018, the couple were living together in a villa in Cassis, near Marseille, on the French Riviera. However, their relationship ended in June 2019 when Anderson accused Rami of domestic abuse in an Instagram post, leading to their breakup.
