Sharyn Storm Keating was born on October 27, 1981, in Childers, Queensland, Australia, to Australian parents Gordon Charles Uechtritz and Debra Lynn. Her father is a cattle rancher and her mother is a business consultant and therapist.

Storm spent her early years in a small village in Papua New Guinea. In 1988, her family moved back to Australia and settled on a cattle farm in Queensland. Storm is the only daughter and the youngest of six children in the family, with three older brothers.
