Biography
Rudzani Maphwanya (born 23 November 1960) is a senior South African army general.
He served as Chief of Joint Operations for two years, from 2019 to 2021.
He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, serving as Commanding Officer of the South African Army Infantry.
In April 2021, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the South African National Defence Force by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Early life
Rudzani Maphwanya was born on 23 November 1960 and his birthplace is Limpopo, South Africa.

He has held various important positions, including SO1 Operations and SSO SF Bde Operations.
He also served as Chief of Staff of the Special Forces Brigade for a very long time (2003-2005).
In 2006, he began his tenure as the Commanding Officer of the South African Special Forces, a position he held for ten years until 2016.
Under an agreement in November 2019, he joined the SANDF Joint Operations Directorate.
In April 2021, Rudzani Maphwa emerged as a truly newsworthy figure after President Cyril Ramaphosa selected him to fill the position of head of the SANDF. On 1 June, he replaced General Solly Shoke, the previous head of the SANDF.
The President described Rudzani Maphwa as a “well-groomed official with vast practical experience” and said he would serve a five-year term.
