Ryan Lee Moore (born 18 September 1983) is a British racehorse jockey who was Champion Jockey in 2006, 2008 and 2009. He is currently the first choice jockey for Aidan O’Brien’s operation at Ballydoyle.

Early life
Ryan Moore was born on September 18, 1983, in Brighton, East Sussex, England, to Gary L. Moore, a successful trainer and former jockey, and Jayne Moore. Raised in a family of jockeys, Moore was exposed to horse racing from a young age. His siblings, Jamie Moore, Joshua Moore, and Hayley Moore, are also successful jockeys.
Ryan’s grandfather, Charlie Moore, was a well-known trainer who lived near Brighton Racecourse, and his aunt, Candy Moore, was also a jockey. Ryan started riding at the age of four, learning from his grandfather and the pony club. He was also passionate about rugby and tried out for Brighton and Hove Albion before deciding to pursue a career in horse racing.

Ryan Moore received his preparatory education at a top Brighton primary school and went on to a top secondary school in the city. He attempted A’Levels before putting his formal education on hold to focus on his racing career.

Ryan Moore’s first wins came when he was 16. Over the years, he has amassed over 3,000 career wins. He won the 2,000 Guineas in 2015 and 2017 and the 1,000 Guineas four times in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2020. He has also won the Epsom Derby four times (2010, 2013, 2023, 2024), the Epsom Oaks four times (2010, 2016, 2020, 2022) and the St Leger Stakes three times (2017, 2018, 2023).
Moore’s other major victories include winning the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes twice (2009, 2016), the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe twice (2010, 2016), the Japan Cup twice (2013, 2022), the Melbourne Cup in 2014, the Breeders’ Cup Turf five times (2008, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2023) and the Pegasus World Cup in 2024.
Ryan Moore has received numerous awards, including the 2003 British Apprentice Flat Jockey Championship and the British Flat Jockey Championship three times (2006, 2008, 2009). He won Apprentice Jockey of the Year and Flat Jockey of the Year in 2006 and the latter award three more times in 2008, 2009 and 2014. He has also been named Longines World’s Best Jockey four times (2014, 2016, 2021, 2023).
