Sajid Javid, 54 years old, was born on December 5, 1969 in Rochdale, Lancashire, England. He grew up in Bristol, where his parents, Abdul Ghani-Javid and Zubaid Javid, immigrants from Punjab, Pakistan, ran a shop.
Raised in a multicultural environment, Javid grew up with four siblings: Basit, Tariq, Atif and Khalid. He became interested in financial markets at a young age, inspired by the privatization process of the Thatcher government.
He attended Downend School and then Filton College before studying Economics and Politics at the University of Exeter, where he became active in the Conservative Party.
Personal life
In 1997, Javid married Laura Javid, also known as Laura King, and the couple have four children: Sophia, Maya, Suli and Rania.
Although Javid was raised Muslim, he no longer practices any religion and considers himself non-religious.
Career
Javid’s career began in banking, where he worked for prominent institutions such as Chase Manhattan Bank and Deutsche Bank.
He quickly rose through the ranks and eventually became a managing director at Deutsche Bank. In 2010, he entered politics and was elected Member of Parliament for Bromsgrove.
Javid’s political career gained momentum when he joined the Cabinet as Culture Secretary under Prime Minister David Cameron.
He later served as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, and Home Secretary under Prime Minister Theresa May.
His tenure as Home Secretary marked a milestone as he became the first British Asian to hold one of the great Offices of State.
