Sani Mu’azu (born 2 May 1960) also known as Sani Mu, is an award-winning actor and filmmaker.
Arguably one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors, Sani Muazu is also a professional film director and producer. Sani Muazu was appreciated for his role in the award-winning film King of Boys, which starred Paul Sambo and Akin Lewis.
Sani Mu’azu has worked on film projects in Nigeria and abroad. He has held many positions in the management and development of the Nigerian film industry. He has also served as the President of the Nigerian Film Practitioners Association.

Early life and education
Sani Muazu was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria on May 2, 1960. He is from northern Nigeria and has an Islamic background.
Sani Muazu graduated from the University of Jos (UNIJOS) with a degree in Mass Communication and then attended the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos State.
Profession
Sani Mu’azu has been in the Nigerian film industry (Nigerian Films/Kanni Films) for over 20 years. In 2007, he produced a film called “Mountain Blues”. “Mountain Blues” won the Best Feature Film Award at the Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) in 2019.
The film also won him the Filmmaker of the Year Award and the Highlander of the Year Award. He worked on the film Soweto directed by Mike Rayburn.
He also starred in the film Mr Johnson (1990), directed by Bruce Beresford. Other films Sani Muazu has starred in include Shuga (2013), Newman Street (2014), Lion Heart (2018), Up North (2018), King of Boys (2018), Soft Work (2020), and Hikama (2020).
Besides working in front of and behind the camera, Sani Muazu is also known for holding executive positions in the industry. He was the President of the Nigerian Film Practitioners Association.
The veteran actor also worked on two international film projects: Soweto in 1987, directed by Mike Reburn, and Mr Johnson in 1990, directed by Bruce Beresford.
Sani Mu’azu has written, produced, directed and starred in several projects in Nigeria and abroad including Shadows, Behind the Clouds, Riddles and Hopes (won the Nigeria Best Actor Award), Agumba, Amina, Egwe, Tambari and many more.
In 2007, a feature film he produced titled “Mountain Blues” won the Best Feature Film Award at the Abuja International Film Festival. Another HIV/AIDS awareness feature film he produced for the BBC World Service Trust Abuja branch, “Hafsa”, received 3 AMAA nominations, becoming the only Hausa film in Nigeria to receive such an honor.
In addition, he won the Best Hausa Producer/Director Award at the British African Film Awards. As an actor, he played leading roles such as Baba Nasiru in “Riddles and Hopes” and Mr. Solomon in “The Voice of Nigeria”.
He is a recipient of the prestigious Movie Star Award and the Nigerian Filmmakers Award NOPA. In 2017, he was appointed as a Fellow of the Film Academy (FFA) at the Igbinedion University, Okada.
Sani Muazu also served as a consultant for the British Council’s “Real Conversations” project in Nigeria in 2006 and represented Africa at the British Council Arts Advisory Conference in London in the same year.
Sani Mu’azu was also one of the Communication for Change experts advising UNICEF Bauchi D Field Office in 2009. He was the National President of the Nigerian Film Practitioners Association.
Sani Muazu was also the inaugural member of the Steering Committee of the Nigeria Film Commission established by the Federal Government. Currently, he is a member of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN).
He is also a member of the Independent Producers Association of Nigeria (ITPAN). He is currently the Managing Director and CEO of Lenscope Media in Jos.
