Early life and education
Saravanan Arul was born on 10 July 1970 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
He was naturally introduced to a Tamil family in Salem, he was the second of five children. His father was a police officer and his mother was a nurse.

His father’s name is Saravana Selvarathinam, his mother’s name is unknown, his uncles’ names are Yoga Rathinam, Raja Rathinam, and his grandfather’s name is Saravanan Nadar.
Saravanan Arul did his Bachelor’s degree in Tamil Literature from Government College of Arts, Salem.

Saravanan Alur, who was interested in Tamil cinema as a child and used to take part in acting events during school, visited the set of a film by director M. Sivachandran in Salem and spoke about the great opportunity of acting in his film.
Thus, he met Sivachandran and his then wife Lakshmi, who soon cast him in the villain role of Lakshmi’s daughter Aishwarya, but the plan did not materialize. By then, Saravanan Arul moved to Chennai and completed an acting course at Adyar Film Institute.
There, he was discovered by director Radha Bharathi, who offered him a role in the film Vaidehi Vandhachu (1991). As a result, Saravanan Arul played a series of leading roles in films in the 1990s. However, his career came to an end at the end of the last decade.
At the end of the early years of his career, he released two films, Vishwanath (1996) and Santosham (1998). However, Santhosam did well in the film industry. Despite this, he encountered misfortunes as a producer, which forced him to take a temporary break from acting. He made up for these misfortunes by arranging foreign performances.
In 2001, Saravanan Alul played an unpopular role in Bala’s Nanda, which won him widespread acclaim. However, he did not appear in other roles. He also directed Thayumanavan (2003) in an attempt to get his career back on track, but the film was not well received.
He made a comeback in Paruthiveeran (2007), directed by Ameer Sultan, playing the uncle of Karthi’s character and his performance won widespread acclaim.
A reviewer for Rediff.com noted that “Saravanan Arul gives a very good performance and doesn’t look like someone who has just returned from a long break.” Meanwhile, an analyst at Sify.com described his performance as “terrific as the good-natured, unruly uncle.”
Saravanan Arul won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actor and was shortlisted for a similar award at the Vijay Awards.
As a result, the success of Paruthiveeran brought more offers to the actor, including a possible role in Sanjay Ram’s biopic Veeramum Eeramum (2007), which was based on the true story of Venkatesa Pannaiyar.
In the late 2000s and mid-2010s, Saravanan Alul played supporting and sometimes deplorable roles in Tamil films.
On June 23, 2019, he participated in Star Vijay’s non-scripted television show Bigg Boss Tamil 3 hosted by Kamal Haasan.
