Sean Ono Lennon speaks out against wokeism: ‘Don’t tell me how to talk’

Sean Ono Lennon, son of the late John Lennon and Yoko Ono, took a stand against wokeism.

The musician/producer took to X, formerly Twitter, to share his thoughts.

“People always say ‘I can’t believe you’re against Wokism.’ Meanwhile, I have been against it since the early 90s. Anyone who knows me will tell you that. My friends, I’ve seen it happen and always hate bullshit– Don’t tell me what to say or what to think. . Teach us HOW to think for ourselves sensibly. People don’t need to be molded, they need to be empowered.”

Lennon’s post received mixed reactions from his followers, with some praising his stance, but at least one questioning his timeline.

“You saw wokeism come back in the 90s? I’m 7 years older than you and I’ve been aware of what we call political correctness since 1990. There’s no way you, I or anyone anyone else could have predicted how difficult it has become to be politically correct hard-core wokeism… and I went to UC Berkeley!”

Lennon responded to that post by writing, “I’m in the belly of the beast. I’ve been complaining about it since day one.”

Although he does not post on X, Sean Ono Lennon is also working on a number of music projects. He serves as John Lennon’s producer Mind Games: The Ultimate Collection, due July 12 from Capitol/UMe. A multi-mix reissue of John Lennon’s fourth solo album, originally released in 1973.

The set will be released in various configurations, including a digital, two-CD and two-LP edition, a Deluxe box set of six CDs and two Blu-ray discs, and a Super Deluxe edition that will be Limited to 1,100 copies worldwide.

Sean Lennon Ono also co-wrote the song “Primrose Hill”, a recently released song by James McCartney, son of Paul and Linda McCartney.

At the time of the song’s release in April, James McCartney wrote on social media: “With the release of this song it feels like we are really starting to get rolling and I’m so excited to continue continue to share music with you”, suggesting that perhaps his collaboration with Sean Ono Lennon was more than just a one-off.
