He is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, music executive, and businessman. He is known professionally by the stage names P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, and Diddy.

Early life

Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs was born to Melvin Earl Combs and Janice Combs on November 4, 1969, in Harlem, New York City. He has an older sister named Keisha Combs.

The Combs family named their son Sean John Combs. His father was an army officer and served in the United States Air Force. His mother, Janice, was a teacher’s aide and model. He spent his formative years in Mount Vernon, New York City.

When Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs was just two years old, his father was shot and killed while sitting in his car. Melvin Earl Combs was 33 years old at the time. He was nicknamed “Puff” because as a child he would “huff and puff” when he was angry.

Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs is an alumnus of Mount Saint Michael Academy. He graduated from the school in 1987. While a student, he played on the school’s football team.

After graduating from high school, he was accepted to study Business at Howard University. But he dropped out after two years.

During his time as Talent Director, he was responsible for developing the careers of Mary J. Blige and Jodeci. He was fired from Uptown Records in 1993.

Instead of joining another record label, he decided to start his own record label and called it Bad Boy Entertainment. The label was a joint venture with Aristo Records and soon signed his first artist, The Notorious BIG.
