Selena Gomez received an apology from Eugenio Derbez X, Instagram
Eugenio Derbez has issued a public apology to Selena Gomez after the actor criticized her Spanish speaking skills in the Netflix musical Emilia Perez.
On December 8, Derbez posted an apology to his official TikTok account, saying he regretted the comment about her Spanish skills, made during an appearance on Spanish podcast “Hablando de Cine”.
I am truly sorry for my careless comments – they are inexcusable and go against everything I stand for,” Derbez said. “As Latinos, we should always support each other. There is no reason at all. I was wrong and I deeply admire your career and your kind heart.”
The actor also emphasized that Emilia Perez deserves to be honored and not be “demeaned” by comments that the actor considers “thoughtless”. Derbez shared that he will move on after learning lessons from his mistakes.
He continued: “While I understand if you cannot accept my apology, please know that it comes from the heart. “With all my love and admiration, Eugenio Derbez.”

In response to the apology, Gomez commented on a TikTok video showing Derbez and podcast host Gaby Meza talking about Gomez’s performance.
“I understand where you’re coming from,” the singer said. “I’m sorry because I did the best I could in the time I was given.”
She also added that the criticized performance will not take away from the hard work and heart she put into the film.
