ISLAMABAD (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the concerned agencies to take decisive action against human traffickers defaming Pakistan and demanded a report on human trafficking cases in the past year involving relating to Pakistani citizens.
The Prime Minister, chairing a meeting to discuss the death of a Pakistani citizen in a boat capsizing incident in Greece and measures to curb human trafficking, called for strict action against those involved in human trafficking. crime to other countries.
He recalled that 262 Pakistani nationals were killed in another incident in the same area last year and expressed displeasure over the inaction against those responsible. He added that the recurrence of such incidents is due to slow action taken against those involved.
The Prime Minister directed the immediate implementation of the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) to monitor international tourists.
During the briefing, the prime minister was informed that 174 people involved in human trafficking were brought before the courts and four of them were convicted.
Prime Minister Shehbaz sought details of the public awareness campaign on human trafficking and asked the FIA and the Ministry of External Affairs to provide a report on incidents involving Pakistani nationals over the past year.
He also emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation with international organizations to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents.
Federal ministers Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Mohsin Naqvi, Ahad Cheema and Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, Coordinator to Prime Minister Rana Ehsan Afzal and relevant senior officials attended the meeting .
Previously, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched the country’s first Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Hotline. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), aims to establish a national referral mechanism and management information system (MIS) for the public. The goal is to ensure affordable services for victims of human trafficking within a unified system.
