Sentencing of Temidayo Awe and others in Saul Murray murder case

Temidayo Awe and three co-defendants were convicted for their roles in the murder of Saul Murray, a case that has had a profound impact on the community since it occurred in February 2022. The case was resolved in March last year when justice was served.

Reports indicate that the tragic chain of events began when Murray shared a photo of his Rolex watch on Instagram, catching the attention of Surpreet Dhillon. Dhillon then began contacting Murray, leading to a meeting that both Dhillon and Temidayo Awe were involved in.”sexual activity” with Murray while injecting him with the sedative GHB to incapacitate him.

Dhillon and Awe were then joined at the venue by Ikem Affia and Cleon Brown. CCTV footage captured the group entering the premises, with Affia seen wielding a large knife. The footage also shows the group leaving, with Murray staggering outside naked before collapsing.

The investigation, which involved meticulous analysis of CCTV footage, phone records and vehicle tracking, eventually led to the arrest of the perpetrators. All four were convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Ikem Affia received the harshest sentence, life in prison with a minimum of 25 years for murder. Cleon Brown was sentenced to 11 years, while Surpreet Dhillon and Temidayo Awe received 10 and seven years, respectively.

Detective Inspector Dale Mepstead from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Crime Unit commented, “This was a meticulously planned attack, orchestrated by Dhillon and Awe and carried out by Affia and Brown. Their willingness to resort to violence, as evidenced by their use of sedatives on Mr Murray and Affia’s possession of a weapon, cost Mr Murray his life.“ .
