Early life

Makinde was born on December 25, 1967, to the late Pa Olatubosun Makinde, a renowned educationist who turned accountant, and Mrs. Abigail Makinde of Aigbofa Complex in Oja’ba, Ibadan. He is the family’s third child.

Makinde started her education at St. Paul in Yemetu, Ibadan and completed his studies there. He completed his secondary education at Bishop Phillips Academy in Monatan, Ibadan.

His admission at the University of Lagos (Unilag) began in 1985 and he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from there.

Oluwaseyi received training in Safe Shutdown Systems at Industrial Control Services in Houston, Texas in 1998 and Development of Analytical Competencies for Operations Management at Lagos Business School (now Pan-Atlantic University) in 1999.

He received automation training in 2000. In 2002, he attended the Jiskoot Automatic Control Training Center in Kent, England to study Fundamentals of Rough Sampling.

Career

Makinde completed his NYSC with Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria (SPDC), where he then worked as a trainee engineer.

He held many positions from 1990 to 1992, managing and participating in a number of key projects. He worked as a field engineer (Eket operator) for Rebold International Limited from 1992 to 1997. In 1995, he was promoted to field manager.

Makinde founded his own business, Makon Engineering and Technical Services Ltd. (METS), in 1997 after five years (1992–1997) as Technical Director for various international oil and gas corporations (IOCs). ). He is currently the CEO of Makon Group of Companies.

Makinde received 515,621 votes on March 9, 2019, surpassing the nearest challenger, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Party, who received 357,982 votes.
