Shrek 2

Shrek 2: The Monsters is a 2004 American animated comedy based on the 1990 children’s book by William Steiger. Directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury, and Conrad Vernon, the film follows the adventures of Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona, voiced by Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.

The sequel introduced new characters, such as Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas, and expanded on the first film’s storyline, with the Fairy Godmother plotting to sabotage Shrek and Fiona’s marriage. Production began in 2001, and the film also saw a change in the writing team and improved animation techniques.

The lead actors’ salaries increased significantly. Like its predecessor, Shrek 2 parodies fairy tale films and references pop culture. Dedicated to William Steiger, the film premiered at Cannes in May 2004 to rave reviews and huge box office success, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2004 and DreamWorks Animation’s highest-grossing film. It was nominated for an Academy Award and spawned sequels and spin-offs.
