Cori Broadus, daughter of rapper Snoop Dogg, opened up about her mental health struggles and suicidal thoughts in 2021.
“I always want the pain to go away. You get to a point where you say ‘Enough is enough,'” she revealed in a candid interview with ‘Us Weekly’.
After the 2021 attempt, Broadus also suffered a stroke in 2024.
“I think it really scared people,” the 25-year-old singer added. “You know, a stroke is no joke. It brought my family and I closer together, seeing that anything can happen in a split second.”
When she was suspected of harming herself, the experience led to her being kept at 5150, which she describes as a turning point.
“Being held at 5150 in the hospital, supervised toileting, [having] someone sat in a chair to make sure I didn’t do anything, then put me in a mental institution, that was definitely an eye-opener for me.”
5150″ is the section number of the Welfare and Institutions Code that authorizes an adult in a mental health crisis to be involuntarily detained for 72-hour psychiatric hospitalization when assessed to be causing dangerous to others, or to oneself or oneself, or has a serious disability,” Orange County Health Care Agency Behavioral Health Services determined.
Broadus explained that her lifelong battle with lupus, combined with the isolation of the pandemic, contributed to her mental health challenges. “When COVID hit, I was just in a deep, dark space,” she shares.
Now, she’s using her experience to help others and notes that many people have reached out to share similar struggles. “All those material things won’t follow you when you die,” she pondered.
Her fiancé, Wayne Duece, has been an important supporter throughout her journey. However, she admits that recovery is an ongoing process: “I’m lucky to have Wayne, but we’re all going through something. It’s going to be okay and it will come along.” time.”
She also added that her father was a great source of strength and support through it all.
