Career
Strawburry17 (Meghan Camarena) developed an interest in YouTube while watching popular YouTubers at the time. With the guidance of her friend Sean, she learned filming techniques and editing skills, which led her to assist the video department at her youth group. In 2007, she created her own YouTube channel, ‘strawburry17’, where she began uploading short home videos. One of her first videos to gain attention was a lip-sync dub of the song ‘I’m a Gummy Bear’, featuring her brother, David. The video caught the attention of major record labels such as Sony, Warner Brothers, Universal, and Atlantic, who approached her to promote their music. Meghan decided to drop out of Bible College and pursue YouTube as a full-time endeavor.
She started posting daily vlogs on a separate channel called ‘LifeBurry.’
Joey Graceffa’s decision to move from Boston to Los Angeles at the time inspired Meghan to do the same. In 2011, she was encouraged by Jimmy Wong to enter the YouTube video competition ‘Next Up’. She was thrilled to be one of the winners, securing the funding to move to California. Despite being an established YouTuber, she experienced a drop in subscribers when Google purged inactive accounts and shut them down from the system in 2012. This prompted her to seek professional help to turn her channel into a recognizable brand.
Meghan has also dabbled in television and film, most notably appearing on two seasons of ‘The Amazing Race’ and serving as a behind-the-scenes correspondent for truTV’s ‘Fake Off.’ In 2015, she partnered with Maker Studios, allowing her to collaborate with respected content creators in the entertainment industry.
