Susan Atkins was born on May 7, 1948 in San Gabriel, California, USA. She was raised by her parents, Jeanette Atkins and Edward Atkins, along with her two siblings Steven Atkins and Michael Atkins. Susan is of English, Irish, Scottish and German descent and is Catholic. She attended Leigh High School and Los Banos High School.

Susan Atkins was a convicted murderer and member of Charles Manson’s infamous “Family” of the late 1960s. Along with other Manson followers, Atkins committed a series of brutal murders in California within 5 weeks. She is known by many aliases such as Sadie, Sadie Glutz, Sadie Mae Glutz or Sexy Sadie in the Manson family. Atkins was convicted of participating in eight murders, including the infamous Tate murders. Initially sentenced to death, her sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. She remained in prison until her death in 2009, making her the longest-serving female prisoner in California at the time. However, she was surpassed by other members of the Manson family.
However, instead of joining the commune, Gary Hinman refused to give them money. In anger, Manson ordered his followers, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel and Charles “Tex” Watson, to go to Hinman’s house and demand money from him. When Hinman still refused, Manson himself came to the house and slashed Hinman’s face with a sword. The next day, Atkins returned to the house with two other Family members and proceeded to torture Hinman for three days, eventually killing him. This brutal and senseless murder was just one of many committed by Manson and his followers in the summer of 1969, eventually leading to their arrest and conviction for the infamous Tate-murder. On the evening of August 8, Manson instructed Atkins, along with Linda Kasabian and Patricia Krenwinkel, to accompany Charles “Tex ” Watson went to a house and did as they said. During grand jury testimony, Atkins revealed that Watson informed them that they were going to the house to rob and kill the occupants. Two nights later, on August 10, Manson, Atkins, Krenwinkel, Watson, Kasabian, Leslie Van Houten and Steve “Clem” Grogan went to the home of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Manson and Watson entered the house and tied up the couple, while Atkins, Krenwinkel and Van Houten followed Watson’s instructions. Atkins even wrote “PIG” in Sharon Tate’s blood on the front door.
