Tyler, the Creator shared what he would do if he became president and it would be pursue a podcast.
Discussion of what he would do as president came up in his latest interview with Billboard. At one point in the conversation, Tyler as well as writer Rembert Browne took aim at the podcast.
The two certainly have a dim view when it comes to the media, and Tyler says the first thing he’ll do as president will be to crack down on them.
“If I were president, the first thing I would do is take the podcast microphone off the n—,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Tyler has spoken out against more modern interview formats. He previously spoke to The Human Serviette Nardwuar at his Camp Flog Gnaw Festival, where he shared that he wants to see “gossip” style interviews end.
“Music is something I love and I can talk about it all day,” Tyler begins.
“But we’re at a time where a musician you know about music is being interviewed on a platform about music, talking in detail about music—what his passions are and what he’s famous for.” — and people say, ‘Why does he keep doing that?'” he continued.
“But, you know, if I’m out here gossiping or talking about this and that, who’s got the beef, then people are interested in that. And it’s like, ‘No, we need to get back to talking about music,” Tyler added.
He aimed for many forms of interviews, including allusions Hot ones‘ interview style.
“We need to stop f**king shopping for sneakers or king’s hot wings for an hour. Talk about your album. Talk about the music. Talk about the 15 songs you guys dedicated time to coordinate and have mastered and put our heart and soul into, produce and do all of these things,” he shared.
“And then when the album came out and sold two copies, everyone was confused. But like, they didn’t want to talk about the music or the album; they’d rather go eat chicken wings and buy sneakers.” “, Tyler continued.
After receiving backlash for his words, Tyler took to his X account to clarify what he meant.
“In the interview, I shared my thoughts about the lack of journalism in music/artists who rarely talk about music but just gossip etc. Hot ones is one of two examples,” he said. “It might seem like I’m looking down on the show but it’s really being used as a broader example that comes to mind when trying to make a point. “
“I could say that one of the podcasts/outlets actually promotes more negative content but I don’t right now. So Sean, you don’t really deserve the energy that’s radiating , that was not my intention.” all though ‘deep throat chicken’ sounds hilarious to me. [sic] most are lost while the clip continues to be thrown around, but at least some of you will see this. won’t change much since it launched but yeah. really wish I used a different example, you seem like a sweet lady,” he added.
Sean Evans, host Hot ones replied Tyler.
“’Deepthroat chicken’ is a funny way of saying it, like a lifelong invitation to a show where we’ll talk about music,” he said.
“Deep throat chicken” is a funny phrase, like always open an invitation to join the program where we will talk about music
