Early Life & Education
Susan Boyle was born on April 1, 1961, to Irish immigrants Bridget Boyle (mother) and Patrick Boyle (father) in West Lothian, Scotland. Her siblings are Mary Brady Boyle, Gerry Boyle, Brigid McCaw and John Boyle.
Her father was a miner and World War II veteran, and her mother was a shorthand typist. Susan was the youngest of nine children.
When Susan Boyle was born, she was briefly deprived of oxygen, causing mild brain damage. She was told the story of the incident as an adult. She has suffered psychological problems as a result of her illness.
Her family’s passion for music helped her through those difficult times. Her parents’ early exposure to singing and piano playing sparked her love of music.
Susan Boyle grew up in the small town of Blackburn. She could not receive a quality music education there. She was bullied at school due to her learning problems.
