Early life and education
Sorana Imani Rowe, better known as SZA, was born on November 8, 1989 in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, USA. Her parents are Christian and Muslim. Her father is an executive producer at CNN. And her mother was also an executive at AT&T.
SZA grew up with her older sister, Tiffany Daniels. Her older brother, Daniel, is a rapper who goes by the stage name Manhattan. Growing up, she practiced Muslim and wore a headscarf. She also went to a prep school after school every day.
In September, SZA stopped wearing the hijab when she was in the 7th grade after being bullied during an attack on Muslims. She also attended Columbia High School in 2006, where she was active in sports and cheerleading.
