The Weeknd shared new insights into what led him to create his upcoming album, Hurry tomorrow.
Talk to Diversity In a candid interview, the singer shared that he suffered a mental breakdown and that partly led him to create his new album. He revealed that touring extensively in 2022 gave him more insight into himself.
“I knew I really needed to sit down and figure out my life,” he told the outlet. “To understand what happened, face it, learn something new and start again. I had a mental breakdown, that’s what this new album is about.”
The Weeknd added that his voice failed him on tour for the first time. After speaking to the crowd, his voice cracked, and when he continued his concert in Los Angeles, his voice was gone.
“My body, and especially my voice, had never failed me before. I went on stage with a high fever, completely sick; I went on stage while my family was leaving. broken or someone passed away; and I lost my voice during a performance but I was always able to get over it,” he said. Diversity.

He said that no amount of vocal exercises could save his voice and that he felt as though he had let the audience down.
“Also, so they can see, ‘I can’t give you the show you paid for.’ Then when I watched the video, the reaction actually wasn’t that bad. But in my head, all I heard was booing, screaming, hate and anger. That’s my feeling of failure,” he continued.
He notes that exhaustion and stress play a role, but mostly it’s mental breakdown.
“I saw the doctor the next day and he said, ‘You’re okay – you [vocal cords] inflamed, but nothing unusual,'” he shared. “And that’s when we realized it was all here.”
Now, The Weeknd has conveyed those feelings into his soul. Hurry tomorrow album, will be released on January 24. This is the third part of his album trilogy, following the release of After work And Dawn FM. It was preceded by three singles, “Dancing in the Flames”, “Timeless” and “São Paulo.”
Despite facing his setbacks, The Weeknd has no plans to retire from music anytime soon.
