This year’s last supermoon will shine tonight

WEBBOARD: As 2024 comes to a close, the last supermoon sighting of the year will be today.

Director of Institute of Space Science and Technology Karachi, Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal in conversation with HUM News, said that the super moon will start appearing gradually after sunset.

“The super moon will appear at 2:28 p.m [Pakistan Time]”, Dr. Iqbal said, adding that the super moon will appear in Asian countries and Gulf countries.

Up to now, the super moon has appeared three times. Dr. Iqbal added that during tonight’s supermoon, the moonlight will increase by 30% and its size will increase by 14%.

The moon during this phase is called a supermoon due to its unusually large size. The increased size occurs due to the moon’s shorter distance from the earth.
