Tim McGraw faced backlash for partnering with Planet Fitness

Country music star Tim McGraw has deleted a recent tweet promoting his partnership with Planet Fitness, a chain of members-only fitness centers, after receiving backlash from fans on social media due to the controversy surrounding the gym and its policies toward inclusivity.

McGraw took to X on Tuesday to announce his partnership with the facility: “Getting up and moving is an important part of my day, so I teamed up with @PlanetFitness to bring giving my fans the chance to move with a special offer,” he wrote, captioning a video post.

“For a limited time you can get your FIRST MONTH FREE at Planet Fitness when you use promo code ‘MCGRAW.’ And while you participate online, consider supporting the Generation Without Judgment initiative to create a better tomorrow by donating to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America,” the caption continued .

In the video, McGraw says he “wouldn’t be able to stay in shape without the support of my family, friends and community. We all need a support system to help us.” We keep moving and that’s when Planet Fitness comes in.” with things like free fitness training for all members, giving you the support you need to start or continue your fitness journey.”

The post was deleted after angry users flooded his replies.

Planet Fitness was criticized online when a photo of a transgender woman, believed to be a man by cameraman Patricia Silva, shaving her face in a women’s locker room was shared online.

Silva was banned from Planet Fitness for violating a policy prohibiting taking photos of gym members in locker rooms.

“As the home of the Judgment Free Zone, Planet Fitness is committed to creating an inclusive environment. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests can use fitness facility that best matches their sincere, self-reported gender identity. Members posted to social media in violation of our mobile device policy prohibiting taking photos of individuals in changing rooms items, resulting in their membership being terminated,” Planet Fitness stated in response to the incident.

Online, many people had choice words for McGraw’s choice to partner with Planet Fitness.

“Sorry Tim, but if you support men’s access to women’s locker rooms and bathrooms then I can’t support you. (Planet Fitness was ‘pretty much destroyed,’ Company Founder Says know amid speculation about boycott cancellation (https://yahoo).com)” posted @TexasParabellum, sharing a link to a Yahoo article detailing the company’s financial losses after Silva’s ban.
