Tom Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California, USA. His father is Amos Mefford Hanks and his mother is Janet Marilyn Flagg, a hospital worker.
Although they are related, he is not a direct descendant of Abraham Lincoln or Fred Rogers. His father is of English descent, while his mother is of Portuguese descent, and the family’s original surname is “Fraga”.
Tom Hanks’ parents divorced in 1960. The youngest child, Jim Hanks (who later became an actor and film producer), stayed with his mother in Red Bluff, California.
