Trey Songz is seeking to overturn an $11 million default judgment, while his legal team argues that he was never served proper notice of the lawsuit.
According to documents obtained from ContactSongz claimed he only learned of the ruling through an Instagram message from a fan on November 27, 2024.
The lawsuit stems from a 2021 incident in Las Vegas involving Maryland Capitol police officer Tyrelle Dunn. According to Dunn’s allegations, Songz, 40, and his security team attacked him when he tried to help his wife, who Dunn said was assaulted and had her phone confiscated while inside. Songz’s hotel room.
Dunn reported suffering multiple injuries, including an orbital fracture, during the confrontation.
Songz’s legal team argued in their motion: “There is good cause to set aside the infringement judgment because [Tyrelle] failed to properly serve the summons and complaint [Trey] under Nevada or California law.”
They emphasized the potential impact of the ruling, saying it “will be devastating to Trey and could ruin his life.”
The singer’s lawyers are asking the court to overturn the ruling to allow Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, the opportunity to present his defense in court. Songz has not made any public statements regarding the allegations.
