early life and education
Tulisa Contostavlos was born on July 13, 1988 in Camden Town, London, England. She is the daughter of Mungo Jerry keyboardist Steve Contostavlos and Anne Byrne, a member of the 1980s big band and swing band Jeep.
Tulisa has one known sibling, a half-brother named Neil Jones, with whom she reconnected in 2014 after years of separation. She attended Quentin Kynaston School in St John’s Wood, but later transferred to Haverstock Secondary School, where she did not complete her GCSE examinations. Tulisa is of mixed race – her mother is Irish and her father is Greek Cypriot. Her religious affiliation is unknown.

Tulisa started her music career by joining forces with her cousin Dappy and her friend Fazer to form the hip-hop group N-Dubz. Dappy and Fazer had already started rapping together, but they wanted to add a female voice to the band, which was originally called the Lickle Rinsers Crew.
They invited Tulisa to join them, and the band released successful singles such as “Bad Man Riddim” and “Life Is Getting Sicker by the Day” on pirate radio stations.
After the success of Lickle Rinsers Crew, the band changed their name to NW1, named after the area of London where they were from. In 2005, they released their first official music video “Everyday Of My Life”, which was broadcast on Channel U.
The band went on to record demos under the name NW1, such as “Don’t Feel Like Moving,” “Girl On Road” and “Livin Broke,” before releasing their first single, “You Better Not Waste My Time,” The single is available for download only.
In 2006, N-Dubz released their first mainstream single “I Swear”, which earned them wider recognition. In 2007, they followed up with the self-released single “Feva Las Vegas”, which peaked at number 57 in the UK charts.
Over the next few years, N-Dubz scored several UK top ten hits with songs such as “I Need You”, “Papa Can You Hear Me?” and “Best Behavior”.
