Mission: Impossible 7 actress Vanessa Kirby agrees that she was “socially and financially privileged” as a child. But her mother, Jane Kirby, didn’t grow up that way.
So who is Jane Kirby? Let’s find out all about her as this article continues.
Meet Jane Kirby, Actress Vanessa Kirby Mother
Jane Kirby is the loving mother of Vanessa Kirby, who comes from humble beginnings. Having lost her parents at a young age, Jane moved to Paris, alone, with “only enough money to buy a baked potato a day”. However, she soon turned her life around and was able to raise three children, including Vanessa, in Wimbledon, south London.
In fact, she could have sent all three of her children to Lady Eleanor Holles Private School, where Vanessa was bullied. “I was bullied pretty badly for a few years and I became self-conscious about everything I did in relation to the bullies,” Vanessa recalls.
But that’s all in the past now. Vanessa isn’t bitter about the bullying and describes her childhood as happy. She’s also glad her mother was there to give her “the nasty advice that mothers do.”
“She always tells me to speak slower and louder. And don’t swear, which is something I’m trying to improve on,” Vanessa shared.
However, the actress regrets having contracted giardia as a child, which went undiagnosed for a long time and left her feeling sick all the time. “All the nightmare injections, the pills in the butt, everything. Being pushed from the age of nine to 11,” she explained.
Interesting Facts: Vanessa’s teachers knew she was being bullied by other girls, but they kept quiet. “One teacher told my mom on my last day of school, ‘She survived. She did it,’ which meant they knew it was happening,” the actor shared.
Is Jane Kirby still Vanessa Kirby’s father’s wife?
Jane Kirby is believed to still be married to Roger Kirby, Vanessa Kirby’s father. The lovely couple were last seen house hunting with Vanessa in March 2021 in De Beauvoir Town in London. The trio reportedly viewed a $2.4 million (£1.75 million) home with high windows, low brick walls and hedges.
Her husband, Roger, is one of the world’s leading prostate surgeons and founder of The Prostate Centre, the UK’s leading independent centre for the care and treatment of prostate health problems. He has specialised in the prostate throughout his career and has personally performed over 2,000 radical prostatectomies, using the da Vinci robot in around 800 of the last operations.
At the Prostate Center, Roger specializes in treating problems such as prostate cancer, prostate enlargement, poor urine flow, elevated PSA, painful prostate, and more. “More than 75% of patients who come to the Prostate Center do not need surgery: they offer multiple treatment strategies and help patients engage in the thought process,” he says.
In addition, Roger is the founder/editor of the journal Prostate Cancer and Prostate Disease, and associate editor of the British Journal of Urology International.
But despite being a famous surgeon, Roger considers himself more of an actor.[My father] “He was completely obsessed with Shakespeare,” Vanessa explains. “His moment of glory was playing Mark Antony in Julius Caesar at the University.”
Ironically, the prostate surgeon was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012. He was reportedly Gleason 7 (a grading system for prostate cancer) and his colleagues operated on him quickly.
Today, as of 2023, Roger is still alive and well at the age of 72.
