Victoria Monet and fitness trainer John Gaines have announced they are ending their relationship.

In a post on Twitter on September 23, Monet shared that they were no longer a couple. They said they had “avoided making an official statement” about their breakup, but decided to make the announcement after facing “questions” about their relationship as well as “extremely false accusations about our origin story.”

The couple actually split 10 months ago and have since tried to focus on their 2-year-old daughter, Hazel.
“We have spent the past 10 months trying to respectfully and privately accept the fact that we are no longer in this relationship. While we still absolutely love and respect each other, we are no longer a couple,” Monet said.

She noted that there was no infidelity in the relationship.
“We still think of each other as the world and act with love in every interaction for our family. We have an amazing daughter to raise for the rest of her life and that is absolutely our number one priority forever. No relationship status can erase or replace that truth. We are committed to doing the inner work and trust that God will put us both where we belong at the right time,” Monet continued.
She thanked her family and supporters for their “love, care and concern” during this time.
“Please give us the peace and space to maintain a safe and happy environment to continue to raise Hazel together to the best of our ability! We plan to remain a family regardless of our public status, so please be understanding and gentle when you see us with Hazel. We thank you all for listening to us and hope to be kept in your good prayers,” Monet added.

She and Gaines kept their relationship fairly private before announcing they were expecting their first child in December 2020. Gaines starred in Monet’s video for her song “Moment” earlier that year.
In 2021, Monet shared that she and Gaines had every intention of getting married. When asked if that was her plan, PerfumeShe said that was “definitely the plan.”
“We are truly in love and enjoying our new chapter… [Hazel has] really got him under her thumb, and I saw him change in ways I know he didn’t expect. She was nurturing us,” Monet added.
Earlier this year, the couple made a public appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where they walked the red carpet with their daughter.
