Spice Girls member Mel B’s daughter, Phoenix Brown, is speaking out and calling out the hate that nepo children have received in recent years.
Brown sat down Times Radio where she opens up about the “toxic connotations” surrounding the nepo baby label. A Nepo infant is defined as someone who achieves success or opportunity through family relationships, especially the child of a famous parent.
“Even when nepo children are very good at their jobs — and many do — they still face backlash due to misunderstandings, jealousy or resentment,” she told the outlet.
Brown said anger over nepo babies has now “bordered on obsession” on social media, leading her to question whether nepo babies are “causing broader inequality in society.” or not”.
“The Nepo children have never faced so much hate,” she said.
Despite hating the label, Brown added that her mother being a Spice Girl “opened some doors” for her.
Brown is not the only celebrity to speak out against the label of nepo children. Previously, some members of Billie Eilish’s family spoke up to defend the singer who was labeled as such when her mother appeared in an episode of Friend in 1999. Talk to charmingHer mother, Maggie Baird, has exposed the label her daughter was given.
“I thought it was hilarious. Because it came out and it was like, ‘Oh, Billie is a baby.’ And I said, ‘Did you know that I saw that episode? Friend because I’m about to lose my health insurance?'” she said.
Finneas also shared similar sentiments about his family and responded to those who claim he and Eilish are babies.
“Ah yes, the classic, one day work on an episode of ‘Friends’ to make someone rich and famous – the whole funny thing about this video is that none of you know her Who is he?” he said.
Singer Lily Allen also came out to defend nepo babies and stated that nepo babies are raised by “narcissistic” parents and that people should focus on other areas about nepo babies than just famous people such as politicians, law firms and banks. Allen is the daughter of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen.
“The nepo kids you should all be worried about are the people who work for law firms, the people who work for banks and the people who work in politics, If we’re talking about the consequences in the real world and take away people’s opportunities. BUT there’s no such thing about my business,” she said on X.
