Stu is best known as the nephew of Ree Drummond, who lives in Texas, but he often visits Ree and her family. Ree often brags about her nephew on social media. For example, in October 2020, when she posted about Stu on her Instagram, she wrote, “In case you didn’t know, my nephew Stu is the cutest kid ever and I love him so much.”

Stu Smith, better known as the son of Doug Smith and brother of Ree Drummond and Suzanne Holland, is a frequent presence on the social media pages of the food blogger and writer.

Doug worked as a Portfolio Manager/Trader at Beal Bank from 2008 to 2010. From 2006 to 2008, he worked for Highland Capital Management, LP as a Senior Portfolio Analyst. He has also worked for Beal Bank as a Bond Trader, a Senior Portfolio Manager at Microsoft, and a Manager for Williams Energy.

Additionally, he has worked for Kidder Peabody as an associate, UBS Investment Bank as an associate director and Smith Breeden Associates also as an associate.

Talking about his educational background, Douglas graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a concentration in Applied Finance and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Business Economics.

Meet Stu Smith’s Father, Doug Smith

Stu Smith’s father is Doug Smith. He is one of three siblings of Ree Drummond. Doug and Ree also have a sister named Betsy Smith and a late brother named Michael Smith. The four siblings were born to their mother, Gerre Smith, and their father, orthopedic surgeon William Smith.

Doug’s parents ended their marriage after 33 years after she fell in love with a family pastor. Prior to their marriage, their stepfather, Pastor Doug, served as pastor at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Furthermore, they are said to currently live in Tennessee.

Doug’s sister, Ree, who has been in the public eye, has opened up about their mother’s second marriage. She has explained that it was a difficult experience in her life. She also called her mother a “villain” who dropped bombs on her family. Gerre filed for divorce in October 2026.

On October 31, 2021, Doug, Ree, and Betsy lost their brother Michael Smith in Bartlesville, Okla. In a statement written by Ree, she revealed, “It’s impossible to sum up the life of someone as amazing as my brother Michael, so right now I’m not going to try.”

“He was seventeen months older than me, my first friend and companion, and I am so grateful for over 50 years of pictures and memories. Please pray for my parents, who were devoted to Mike, and will feel this loss most deeply. Michael Smith, you were everything.”

Meet Stu Smith’s Mom, Suzanne Holland

Suzanne Holland was born to Donna Axum Whitworth and J. Bryan Whitworth in Fort Worth, Texas. Her parents married in 1982. She lost her mother on November 4, 2018 at the age of 76.

Donna was born on January 3, 1942, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Idelle and Hurley Axum. She graduated from El Dorado High School and then earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Her love of music and singing talent led Donna to win the title of Miss Arkansas and then to be crowned Miss America in 1964.

Over the years, she has built a career as a television personality, professional speaker, author, and university professor. Donna received a Presidential appointment to serve on the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Additionally, Donna served as President of the Texas Cultural Trust and Chair of the Board of Directors of Texas Women for the Arts. In Fort Worth, Donna served on the Van Cliburn Foundation Board of Directors, the Fort Worth Symphony Executive Committee, and the Texas Christian University, College of Fine Arts Advisory Board.

Donna was also the first Miss America to be elected to the Miss America Board of Directors.

Additionally, Suzanne’s father, J. Bryan Whitworth, was an attorney and former oil company executive. He was born in Louisiana and attended the University of Alabama (1954–1958) and law school (1959–1961).

After graduating, Bryan began working at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma (now ConocoPhillips) and became Executive Vice President and General Counsel – Government Relations and Human Resources responsible for the administrative and legal headquarters executives.

Bryan also retained that position after the Phillips-Conoco merger, but retired in 2005. He is currently of counsel to Wachtell, Lipton, Rozen and Katz, a New York City law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Whitworth’s father, JB “Ears” Whitworth, was the head football coach at the University of Alabama from 1954 to 1958.

Suzanne has two sisters; Elizabeth and her husband Todd Forgan, of Dallas, TX; and Cathy and her husband Alex Jordan, of Little Rock, AR. Suzanne and Cathy started a business together called Oil tycoon’s daughter (like Air B&B) in Pawhuska. Cathy is creative in business.
