Meet Charles Jordan, Father of Wynonna Judd

Charles Jordan is the biological father of singer Wynonna Judd. But discovering she had a different father wasn’t the only tragedy that followed. Wynonna, then 30, learned from her mother that she had a different father than the one who raised her.

“I knew all this… when I was pregnant with Elijah. [Judd, my son, who was born in 1994]”, Judd explained about learning about the existence of his biological father. “I was 30 years old and I found out, you know, a part of my life that I thought, you know, this man was my biological father was not. And that was Ashley’s father…”

“The first thing I said was, ‘It’s okay.’ And of course, I was angry inside… and I just realized nine years later, I was really angry. Being authentic and knowing who you are, not just what you do, is sacred and I’m doing it right now, and all the work hurts,” Wynonna told Oprah.

Naomi opened up about keeping secrets from Wynonna, saying, “I don’t know if I think about it every day of my life, but there are certainly very few days that I don’t have to live with this secret, and I think that takes a toll on a child.”

Among the Judd women, Wynonna is not the only one who does not know about it. Because her sister Ashley has known this secret since she was a child.

Ashley spoke about the situation and said, “I think… not knowing the truth was more confusing to her than finding out. I was more sympathetic and understanding to her because I knew. Interestingly, I didn’t see it as my business to tell her. I’m not sure why I didn’t but I definitely got to a point when I was 26 where I was like, ‘Enough!’”

But, in 2020, Wynonna learned that her biological father had a family of his own. Wynonna revealed that she had met her half-brother, Michael, Charles, with another woman. Michael was three years younger than her and was from Kentucky.

Although Wynonna met her half-brother, she never met her father, Charles.

Speaking to CNN, Wynonna shared that she had always wondered about using her mother’s maiden name. She told Larry King, “Yeah, my grandmother was Polly Judd, so my biological father, I never met him, so there’s a real part of me that wonders, OK, there’s another part of me that — that’s not known, and that book is really about finding yourself, you know, because I always say I love what I do but I’m not sure I really love who I am.”

She shared about her father, “Oh, his name was Charlie Jordan and I was going to see him about a month before he passed away but I didn’t get a chance so…”.

The relationship between Naomi Judd and Charles Jordan

Naomi Judd, Wynonna’s mother, became pregnant with her when she was 17. They are believed to have attended Ashland High School in the early 1960s.

The father of the stillborn baby at that time was Charles Jordan. But Charles decided to run away from his responsibility. So he walked out of her life.
