Kevin Edlin returns home
HGTV’s “Home Town” restored a family heirloom to create a cozy and secluded home for musician and sound engineer Kevin Edlin in Episode 4 of Season 5. Since he commutes between Nashville and his original hometown of Johns County, outside of Laurel, Mississippi, it was the perfect location for him to work on his music.
This log home was previously rejected for being too complicated and expensive, but Erin and Ben took on the challenge and restored the home, which was featured on HGTV. Ben from Home Town stated, “It could be a great setting for a horror movie, … or a home renovation show.”
Erin told Kevin, “I understand why you want to keep the cabin. I think it’s special too. But it needs a lot of work.” Ben added, “What we’re talking about is like a writer’s retreat.” He explained, “A place where he can come to work on his music, spend time with his family, get back to his roots, and then come back to Nashville.”
Erin wanted to remodel the place in a way that felt like it was part of the forest. She explains, “I thought of rocks and moss and that was the color palette I was going to use throughout the cabin.”
The log home was built in 1980 by Bobby Webb, a friend of Kevin’s father, hence the name Webb House. From roof repairs, siding, painting, chimney work, utilities, water heaters and electricity, the estimated cost of the renovation was $40,000 before they even got inside.
Ben and Erin did a fantastic job from the front deck, living room, kitchen, family room and the entire interior space.
Currently, “The Edlin House” can be used as a BNB with prices ranging from $100 to $750/night.
