He is the son of a Wing Chun instructor.
His grandparents are from Guangzhou, China, while his father, Barry Pang, was born and raised in Australia.
His mother, Anne Pang, was born in Taiwan and moved to Australia in the 1970s.

Chris Pang is a distant relative of Bruce Lee, as Bruce Lee’s father was a cousin of Chris Pang’s grandmother, and both were from the same village in Guangzhou.
