Meet Debra Hauer, Jonah Hauer-King Mom

Debra Hauer is the reason Jonah Hauer-King pursued an acting career. “I owe a lot of my love of theater to her,” Jonah told Broadway World in October 2016. “She always took me to shows and exposed me to a wide variety of theater. Even though I grew up on stage, I never really admitted to myself that I wanted to act until I was in my mid-teens.”

However, his parents warned him that the industry came with a lot of “uncertainty” and “instability”. But once he made up his mind, he claims that his parents were “very supportive” of his aspirations.

“My mum is American, my dad is English, and I grew up in a Jewish family in North London. It seems like there were a few of us in Cambridge!” Jonah told a British entertainment website that he regularly visits family in San Francisco (short for the Bay Area, I think). His sister, Hannah, a theater director, told a British website, “I love being Jewish. I feel like we should all be spiritual. It doesn’t have to be through an organized religion; for me, it’s just Judaism because that’s how I was raised.”

Postcard from London, Ashes in the SnowAnd The Old Boys are three movies he participated in in 2018. A Dog’s Way Homea 2019 romantic comedy, gave Jonah his big break in Hollywood. Alongside The Little Mermaid, he has completed filming the upcoming films Rich Flu and A Beautiful Imperfection.

Is Debra Hauer still married to Jonah’s dad?

Debra Hauer is no longer married to Jonah’s father, Jeremy King. The couple divorced after 24 years together.

Jonah’s mother addressed their divorce in an interview with Fabsters awesome“Just as I was getting ready to return to work, my marriage fell into crisis, and rushing back to work was no longer a priority for me,” Debra explains. “Instead, I focused on making my children feel safe and helping them navigate the new realities of their changed family situation. This delayed my return to work by a few years longer than I had originally planned.”

“The divorce also took a toll on my self-esteem,” she continued. “But you know, I don’t think any of this therapy would have happened if I hadn’t gotten divorced. Breaking the status quo sent my world into this free fall.”

“Divorce was the most impossible, strange, unexpected thing that could happen in my world,” Debra concludes. “I woke up in the morning and thought, ‘No, no, this can’t be my life. I’m just having a nightmare. This isn’t me.’ That was the negative side. The positive side was, ‘Oh, I’m surviving this—anything is possible.’ It showed me that you don’t just have to keep repeating what you’ve always done. There’s a whole world out there, and suddenly I thought, ‘I’m going to train to be an existential psychotherapist.’”

Jeremy was born in June 1954. He is 69 years old in 2023. He is the Owner and CEO of Corbin & King.
