Meet Laurie Mack, Barry Plath’s First Wife
Viewer of Welcome to Plathville It was recently learned that before he married Kim Plath and had nine children, Barry Plath was married to someone else. His first wife was named Laurie Mack.
A legal document that appears to show Barry had a previous marriage was posted on Instagram by Without a Crystal Ball blogger Katie Joy. She added a lengthy comment that provided more details about the unnamed marriage and the reality TV star’s past. The post begins with the sentence “Barry Plath is no stranger to divorce,” and goes on to say that Barry married his first wife, Laurie, in 1990.
“By 1991, the couple moved to Tallahassee, Florida,” Katie continued, adding that by 1994, Barry and his first wife filed for divorce, “citing irreconcilable differences.”
“The couple has no children and their divorce agreement requires Barry to repay one of Laurie’s student loans,” the caption reads, noting that Barry married his second wife, Kim, in 1997. “This was Kim’s first marriage,” the post reads. Barry’s first wife reportedly lives in Minnesota, where Barry grew up.
Katie agreed, saying that “Barry NEVER mentioned his previous marriage.” She asserted that Barry was not raised a fundamentalist and that he did not start going to church until he moved to Florida with Laurie.

Barry and Kim are now also divorced. After 24 years of marriage, the Welcome to Plathville actors confirmed their separation in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.
“After much thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,” Kim and Barry said in a joint statement. “While this was not an easy decision, we know it is the best choice for both of us. We have had many ups and downs in our 24 years of marriage, and as we embark on this next chapter of our lives, raising our wonderful children together.”
Season 4 of Welcome to Plathville focuses on Kim and Barry’s marriage, including their decision to divorce and live apart.
“I can’t help but feel a little betrayed,” Barry said in an episode that aired in June 2022. “The one thing I thought would never be shaken is us. Now it’s completely shaken. It’s really sad. It’s a tragedy.”
In a confession, he added, “I looked at her and saw a woman who felt trapped. I bought flowers and gifts, but I remained optimistic that she would change.”
