But the African market remains the 30-year-old’s main focus, with the company recently opening new stores in Senegal’s capital Dakar and the South African surfing hotspot Cape Town. A new branch in Morocco is planned for 2016.

While the brand’s team is based in Dakar, the products are manufactured across Africa; hats are handwoven in Burkina Faso and bandanas are screen-printed by refugees in Kenya. “Our mission is to build a leading, authentic, premium brand that uses surfing as a cultural bridge between Africa and the rest of the world,” says Yeshi. Bantu Wax constantly collaborates with designers, artisans and factories to produce the collection, but one thing remains constant: the products are and will always be made in Africa.
