Early life
On May 19, 1981, Mario Mims was born in Memphis, Tennessee. His parents, uncles, and aunts were all con artists. He grew up in a middle-class family. He was raised in the crime-ridden RidgeCrest housing complex.
The police raided their home when Mario was in second grade, and his parents and other family members were thrown in jail. Left to fend for himself, he began wandering the streets.
He started rapping at the age of 14 with his group in Memphis during the 1990s. In 1996, he released his first Gangsta style Underground album titled ‘Youngsta On A Come Up’ under the stage name ‘Lil Yo’ on the label ‘Crime Lordz Records’.
The album quickly became a local hit, establishing Yo Gotti as the leader of a local underground hip-hop group and one of Memphis’ most talented rappers, helping him achieve fame.

From 2000 to 2006, Gotti released mixtapes such as Da Dope, Game 2 Da Rap Game, Self-Explanatory, Life and Back 2 Basics, which received positive reviews but little attention.
In 2012, he released his debut album Live From The Kitchen, which featured famous artists such as Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane and many others. The album peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
It spawned three top 100 singles, 5 Stars, Women Lie Men Lie and Look in the Mirror. In 2010, Gotti signed a licensing deal with Epic Records. His first single, Act Right, peaked at number 5 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles chart.
