Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson encourages fans to watch ‘Moana 2’ in theaters to their favorite songs, despite common movie etiquette suggesting otherwise.

Debate over whether singing along in cinemas is acceptable has increased in advance of some highly anticipated recent releases. But while some people think singing disrupts the viewing experience for others, Johnson said knowing the songs is “the fun part” in a red carpet interview with ‘BBC’.

“Sing! You paid your hard-earned money for a ticket, and you got into a musical, and you’re passionate about it. Sing,” Johnson told the outlet.

Following the release of the movie ‘Wicked’, inspired by the popular Broadway musical starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, several theaters have issued notices encouraging viewers to keep singing to watch at home. Movie theater chain AMC planned to air a 30-second commercial urging audiences not to scream along, as ‘The Daily Beast’ reported.

However, others chose to forgo traditional concert etiquette, leading to sing-alongs in the theater.

Angela Weir, who attended an early screening of ‘Wicked’, said: “It started slowly. Then everyone heard each other – like they were encouraging each other. It was a beautiful scene and then you excluded from that scene”. ‘The New York Times.’

‘Moana 2’ is scheduled to open on November 27 in the US, less than a week after ‘Wicked’ comes out. Although Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for an Oscar for the ‘Moana’ soundtrack, he did not return to work on the songs for ‘Moana 2’.
