Young Thug’s Lawyer Arrested, Scorned After Charge of Coercion Court: Report

AllHipHop reports that Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, was held in contempt by Judge Ural Glanville, the judge presiding over the rapper’s controversial RICO YSL trial.

On Monday, June 10, 2024, Steel spoke to Judge Glanville, asking about an allegedly private conversation between him, the prosecution and witness Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland.

Copeland was in jail over the weekend after refusing to testify in Young Thug’s June 7, 2024 trial. Prosecutors then brought him back to the witness stand on June 10, but he remained tight-lipped.

During the lunch break, Steel approached the courthouse and confronted the judge about a meeting that allegedly took place in the judge’s chambers with Copeland without the defense’s knowledge.

During the meeting, Steel revealed that Copeland had allegedly admitted that he killed Donovan “Nut” Thomas, which was a key incident in the trial.

“What about the witness, what about Mr. Copeland, who allegedly stated that he did not testify and that he will sit for two years and, supposedly, this honorable court — or let me rephrase that – this court, says I can detain you until the end of this trial… If true then what is this – is coercion [and] witness testimony,” Steel shared in court.

Glanville was “furious” at Steel’s revelation and demanded that he reveal how he knew of the meeting. Steel then denied Glanville’s request to reveal his sources and requested a mistrial.

The judge held Steel in contempt and he was taken out of the courtroom. Finally, Steel’s co-counsel, Keith Adams, asserted and objected to the trial continuing without Steel.

“You cannot blackmail the court,” Judge Glanville argued. “It doesn’t work that way.”

In May 2022, Young Thug was among 28 YSL Records (Young Slime Life Gang) associates charged in a 56-count RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization) indictment by the bureau Fulton County District Attorney in Atlanta.

Since his arrest in 2022, Young Thug has been repeatedly denied bond release because he reportedly held a commanding position in the alleged Atlanta gang.

Young Thug has been accused of running a secret gang in Atlanta called “Young Slime Life”, which was covered up by his record label/music collective called “Young Stoner Life”.
