Early life
Aliko Dangote was born in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria on April 10, 1957.
This makes him a Hausa Muslim. He was born into a very wealthy family of Muhammad Dangote and Miriya Dangote. He has a sibling named Sani Dangote. He is related to a famous Nigerian businessman, Alhassan Dantata.
He strategically followed in his parents’ footsteps by venturing into business.
Education
Aliko Dangote attended primary school in Sheikh Ali Kumasi and later attended Capital Secondary School, Kano.
He graduated from Birnin Kudu Government College and obtained a Bachelor of Business and Management degree from Al-Azhar University, Cairo.
Career
In 1977, Aliko Dangote started a small business in Nigeria, where he tried his hand at importing and selling agricultural products.
In a short period of time, his business expanded. He started by selling items like sugar, salt and flour where he made a lot of profit and became a leading businessman. In an effort to expand his business, he ventured into manufacturing and selling cement. With this, his company grew bigger and became widely known.
In fact, he makes more of his wealth from cement production because it is sold across the continent. Aliko Dangote has invested in many industries, oil and gas, consumer goods manufacturing, telecommunications, among others.
Today, he owns the world’s third largest sugar refinery and dominates the Nigerian sugar market, being a major distributor even across Africa. Dangote Group PLC produces Salt, Sugar, Noodles, Pasta, Flour and other food items.
The company is also known for exporting crops like cocoa, cotton, ginger etc to different countries. Recently, its Oil Refinery is being built in Nigeria as this will help to solve major problems and improve the economy of Nigeria.

He lives in Lagos, Nigeria. Regarding his marriage and family, he has been married twice but divorced. He has 3 daughters: Mariya, Fatimah and Halimah Dangote.
