Meet RHOSLC Monica Garcia’s family

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Monica Garcia has a volatile relationship with her mother Linda. However, Linda will also appear on the show and fans hope that they can patch things up.

Monica and Heather Gay talked about Monica’s “unstable” relationship with her mother before the “car kidnapping”.

Monica cried as she thought back to her childhood: “When I was 12 years old, my mother decided she wanted to pursue her dream, so she sent me to a family in Pennsylvania and went to live in New York.” She added, “My dad left me when I was four, and then my mom left me too so I had major abandonment issues because of that.”

The reality TV actress addressed her situation again in episode 6, admitting that she has “a little bit of resentment” towards her mother.

RHOSLC Monica Garcia Mom

RHOSLC’s Monica Garcia’s mother’s name is Linda Darnell. In episode 10 of season 4 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Linda extends her “peace offering” by asking her to join her in therapy. Linda drove up to Monica’s driveway and added, “I came with a gift.”

Monica explained that the car “wasn’t a gift,” adding: “I can’t do this anymore. I can’t stand it when you get upset or angry because you’re trying to come get my car.” In response, the Bravo star’s mother declared that she “won’t do it anymore” and that “obviously I have some skills to learn.”

Linda told Monica she wanted to go to therapy with her daughter while they were standing in her driveway. “I think it will be very good for us,” Linda told her daughter.

Linda was eager to “get back on track,” but because they had both previously attended therapy, Monica asked to “think.” Monica’s mother added: “When we had dinner, I got serious about therapy. I think it will be very good for us. We need to get back on track. The cycle of dysfunction in our family goes back generations, right? You and I can be the ones to break it.”

The effort was lost on Monica, who responded, “Mom, you just carjacked me and you want to talk about dysfunction?”

Monica mentioned that she didn’t think therapy had worked the last time she and her mother left. As of writing, their relationship seems unrepaired. Monica said that she and her mother “haven’t really talked since we finished filming” during an interview with Housewives Nightcap at BravoCon.

In this exclusive sneak peek from E! News, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star and her mother, Linda, faced off again on the November 14 episode of the Bravo series. Following their heated altercation in the October 31 episode, Linda confiscated her daughter’s car in retaliation for their ongoing conflict. Their most recent confrontation took place after that incident.

After arriving at Monica’s house unannounced, Linda declares in the preview, “I came with a gift,” to which the Bravolebrity responds, “This is not a gift!” Returning Monica’s SUV was “a peace offering,” Linda clarified, and Monica put her foot down.

“I can’t do this anymore,” Monica said. “I can’t stand it when you’re upset or angry when you come and take my car.”

“Monica begged me to do this reality show with her. Petition. I don’t want to do that. She told me all I had to do was cook and speak Portuguese. How did she return the favor? She did me dirty,” in a message posted on October 18 on X (formerly known as Twitter), Linda scolded her daughter for the way she treated her during the concert. “Meanwhile, I would never compete with my only child – unless it was sports. I’m too smart to try to fight Monica, she’ll chew me up and spit me out.”

Linda continued to deny her daughter’s accusations that she abandoned her, saying, “I always put her needs before my own, even when she was an adult. I am not a perfect human being but I *am* a devoted mother and Vóvó. God bless us, everyone. #RHOSLC.”

In her recent Tweet, Linda wrote, “Monica has not paid on time for two years. Two years. Not one. The first on-time payment came this year in October 2023. I don’t play this game anymore. I am being slandered in the worst way possible. #RHOSLC.”

RHOSLC Monica Garcia Spouse

RHOSLC star Monica Garcia revealed on her Bravo bio that she is “divorcing husband Mike for the second time.” When the Boston native met her co-stars Angie Katsanevas and Lisa Barlow for lunch, she brought up the fact that she was getting divorced.

“About four years into my marriage, I found myself in what one might call an entanglement,” Monica explains. That led to a divorce and then a wedding because we divorced and remarried. And now we are divorced again.”

Monica and Mike reportedly got married in September 2009 in Kaysville, Utah. Monica has been pretty clear about having primary custody on RHOSLC.

Two days after Christmas in December 2013, Monica first filed for divorce from her husband Mike due to their “irreconcilable differences.” The dismissal order and final decree were both entered into the system a short time later, in May 2014 and June 2014, respectively. After the judgment was entered in January 2015, the divorce was finally cancelled.

According to the ruling, the couple had only one daughter, Jaidyn, now 13, during their marriage.

Because it was not part of the divorce, the father of Monica’s 17-year-old eldest daughter has not been identified. Although Mike was allowed to visit Jaidyn, Monica was given sole custody at the time. Co-parental legal custody has been granted to both parents. According to court documents, Monica’s estimated total monthly income at the time was more than $4,500.

After reconciling, the couple appears to have been together for eight years. On June 12, 2023, Monica then filed for divorce a second time. The public does not have access to the petition or other documents. According to the most recent documents filed in late August, it appears the estranged couple is moving towards divorce this time.

Because a domestic restraining order has been filed, neither party can “harass, threaten or disturb the peace of the other party.” They also cannot “use the other party’s name, likeness, image or identifying information to obtain credit, open a service account or obtain services.”

It appears the couple lived in a modest home throughout their marriage, which is now estimated to be worth around $425,000. According to public records, although Monica’s current residence address is unknown, Mike is the registered owner of the property. Mike was contacted by The US Sun for comment on this story.

In the second episode of RHOSLC, Monica revealed the shocking truth about being excommunicated by the Mormon Church and shared more about her past. Monica confessed to Heather Gay that she had been “in love” with her brother-in-law for 18 months while they went shopping. The creator of Brea Baby went on to claim that she informed her bishop about the incident because she “felt guilty.”

Monica was immediately “shunned by everyone and made unwelcome literally everywhere,” describing it as “truly one of the worst experiences of my life.” Monica made it clear that she did not sleep with her husband’s brother; that was her husband’s sister’s husband.

Her brother-in-law was not treated the same way and he remained in the church. “Yes,” Heather affirmed. “They never exclude men.”
