Angry messages are not credible threats

A judge has granted a temporary restraining order to hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre, on the grounds that his messages to former therapist Dr. Charles Sophy were not valid threats.

Sophy appeared in court for a hearing Tuesday regarding a permanent restraining order against Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young.

Last month, the therapist was granted a temporary restraining order against Dre after he sent him multiple angry messages, including one that used profane language.

In a separate case, Sophy also testified that text messages from Dre showed continued threatening behavior and that he feared for his safety based on the rapper’s past behavior.

But Dr. Dre appeared during the proceedings via Zoom, insisting his messages were intense but not threatening.

Ultimately, however, the judge ruled in Dr. Dre’s favor, lifting the protective order that required him to stay 100 yards away from Sophy.

As TMZ reports, the judge said the evidence he heard was insufficient to warrant continued protection.

Dr. Dre Vs. Sophy

The dispute stemmed from Dre accusing Sophy of acting unethically during marriage counseling with Dre and his ex-wife Nicole Young, and claiming that Sophy brainwashed their children against him between divorce battle.

Sophy also responded to Dre’s accusations of being a racist during the hearing. In defense of his character, he noted that he worked in child welfare for more than 20 years with children of all backgrounds.

The case was preceded by several public cases involving Dr. Dre, who has faced various charges in recent years.
