Early life

Banky W, originally named Olubankole Wellington, is the proud son of George Bankole Wellington (Father) and Momma Wellington, popularly known as Mrs. Wellington (Mother).

He is originally from Badagry, although his mother is from Calabar, in Cross River state.

Banky W was not born in Nigeria; instead, he was born in the United States on March 27, 1981.

Five years after his birth, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wellington, along with his siblings moved to Nigeria.

As a result, the Yoruba man has four siblings, three brothers and one sister.

Education

Music star, Banky W attended primary and secondary school in Lagos State, Nigeria, before coming to the United States to obtain his University degree.

There, he won a scholarship to study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York City.

Career

Strong Ting crooner Banky W established his brilliant career as a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic in New York City. His talent and hard work helped him establish a record label called EME Records while working with GlobalSpec in 2002.

A few years after studying in America, the singer returned to Nigeria and started another record label in Lagos State.

He scouted the country for talent to fill the void on his new record label, which led to the birth of soon-to-be superstars Wizkid, Skales, Niyola and Shaydee.

Banky W worked and released his first studio album titled R&BW at a concert titled The Grand Love Concert held at Civic Center Victoria Island Lagos State.

The singer created hit singles, EPs and Albums during that time.
